For the third time and the second consecutive year Riverland Terrace won the Clean Cities Sweep in the Neighborhood Category. This annual event is held the week preceding Earth Day and is an opportunity for volunteers to clean up, garden and beautify their neighborhood, beach, waterway or other special place. Diane Wiggins...Weeeee just having fun!
This year we tackled Lake St. James, removing debris and opening up
view sheds of the lake and marsh. Thirty four volunteers came out and
made a lot of progress. Go see for yourself and get inspired to join
us next year! The Garden Club provided a delicious picnic that
volunteers and friends enjoyed at Plymouth Park.
When I received the call that we won for the second year in a row, I
asked does this mean we have a trashy neighborhood? Of course not,
said Karen Buzby with Keep Charleston Beautiful, the judges were
impressed with our organization, scope of work and overall
performance. For winning we receive a tree to plant in the Fall.
The Awards Ceremony is on the stage at 1 PM on Saturday April 28th at
the Earth Day Celebration at Park Circle in North Charleston. This
event has lots of activities and is free to the public, hope to see you
there!
